Victims

By Shirley Dicks

"Once we had stripped, the two boys shouted at us with an evil laugh.  I saw Mike get knocked to the
ground.  I stepped back, determined not to go down.  I knew if I did, they would finish us off.  Over and over I felt the blows to my head and saw the steel glint of the Magnum the boy held in his hand."  From Trevor Dicks, one of the contributor of the book.

Victims is separated into parts.  Part one deals with personal accounts of victims of crime such as Debbie Darbois-Lowe, Trevor Dicks, a mugging victim, Pat Bane, M. Kerry Kennedy, Corretta Scott King.

The next part deals with some of the organizations such as Parents of Murdered Children, Victim Services, Hope for Bereaved Parents, Project Hope and many others.

The Next part of the book deals with families of crime such as Shirley Dicks, Zel Morris, Shabaka Waglini who spent thirteen years on Florida's death row before being exonerated and freed from prison.  Marie Dicks tells her story of how her life was spent visiting the prison where her father was wrongly convicted, and James Earl Ray tells his version of why he was sent to prison.

"Joseph Brown confessed to a burglary he committed with an accomplice, who got
even by accusing Brown of a murder. Brown was convicted and sentenced to die,
although the accomplice failed a polygraph test and admitted
he lied. Brown, who came within hours of execution, was released after 13 years on death row,
from a chapter on victims of punishment.  "It was a pretty rough time and we prayed
that Yusuf would be found alive. Eighteen days after he disappeared, they found his body..
in an abandoned school. After the funeral, I was still in shock and not wanting to believe that my Yusuf
would never again put his arm around my neck, from a mothers story about her murdered son.

This thought provoking collection of interviews provides an insight into the multi
faceted issue of victims. Topics include personal accounts support and survive and
